No. The life-size Unicorn Gundam that stood outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba is gone. Its last day on display was Monday 31 August 2026. The statue’s official site now carries the notice in the past tense: 「2026年8月31日（月）をもちまして、実物大ユニコーンガンダム立像の展示は終了いたしました。」
It had stood there since September 2017 — just under nine years — and the same spot held the original RX-78-2 from 2012. Almost every English-language guide to Tokyo still lists it as a permanent fixture. All of them are now wrong.
This page was rewritten on 7 September 2026, after the removal. Below: what is actually on the site now, what is still worth the trip to Odaiba, and where the nearest life-size Gundam is — because it is no longer in Tokyo.

The short answer
- The statue is gone. Final day of display: Monday 31 August 2026.
- Nothing has been announced to replace it. As of 7 September 2026, neither the statue’s official site nor DiverCity Tokyo Plaza has published any successor plan.
- THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO (7F) and THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO ANNEX (2F) are both still open. They were not affected by the removal.
- The nearest life-size Gundam still standing is in Fukuoka, not Tokyo, and not Yokohama.
What was there, and how it ended
The statue was the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, roughly 19.7 metres tall, and its trick was that it changed: several times a day the armour panels opened and it shifted from Unicorn Mode to Destroy Mode, with the psycho-frame lighting up after dark. That transformation is what made it worth timing a visit around, and it is what people mean when they say the Odaiba Gundam “moved”.
Bandai ran a farewell programme rather than simply switching it off. From 22 to 31 August 2026 a special film, UNICORN GUNDAM Statue — BEYOND POSSIBILITY —, played on the statue and the building wall, and a final ceremony was held on Saturday 29 August 2026. Then it came down.
What is on the spot now
Nothing you would travel for. The statue stood on the 2F Festival Square in front of DiverCity, and with it removed that space is simply an open plaza attached to a shopping mall.
We are not going to guess at a successor. Several Japanese blogs are speculating about what might be built there next, and none of it is official: as of 7 September 2026 the statue’s own site says only that the display has ended, and DiverCity Tokyo Plaza’s site carries no announcement about the square at all. If a replacement is announced, we will update this page. Until then, do not plan a trip around one.
What is still at DiverCity — and whether it is worth the trip
Worth it if you build models. Not worth a special trip if you were coming for the statue and nothing else — Odaiba is a 20-minute ride from central Tokyo and DiverCity is otherwise an ordinary mall.
THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO — DiverCity 7F
The official Gundam plastic-model store, and still the single best place in Japan to buy Gunpla in one stop: the standing range plus store-limited kits you will not find in Akihabara. Its FACTORY ZONE and BUILDERS ZONE were both renewed on 20 July 2026, so the layout most English guides describe is already out of date. If you have read about this shop before, what you walk into is newer than that.

THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO ANNEX — DiverCity 2F
The second Gundam Base storefront in the same building, on the same level as the old statue plaza. It is still listed as operating on the chain’s official store directory. Worth five minutes if you are already at the mall; not a destination on its own.
DiverCity’s own opening hours as of September 2026: shops 11:00–20:00 on weekdays and 10:00–21:00 at weekends and holidays, the food court until 21:00 on weekdays and 22:00 at weekends, restaurants until 22:00 daily. Individual tenants set their own hours, so check the store page before a long trip.
The nearest life-size Gundam still standing is in Fukuoka
The RX-93ff ν Gundam at LaLaport Fukuoka has been on display since April 2022 and is billed as the tallest of the life-size statues ever built — taller than the Odaiba one was. With Odaiba finished, it is the one to plan around.
- Daytime: the “ν GUNDAM activation” sequence runs on the hour, 10:00 through 18:00, without wall projection.
- After dark: five projection shows — 19:00, 19:30, 20:00, 20:30 and 21:00 — each a different programme, including a Hathaway’s Flash film and a Beyond the Time version.
- Getting there: LaLaport Fukuoka is a short walk from JR Takeshita Station, one stop south of Hakata.
- Caveat: the operator states that performances and lighting can be changed or cancelled without notice for weather or events.
The other statue English guides still list — the walking Gundam at GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA — closed in March 2024. Between that and Odaiba, there is now no life-size Gundam statue anywhere in the Tokyo area.
New for 2027: THE GUNDAM BASE OSAKA
Announced on 2 September 2026, days after the Odaiba statue came down: the chain’s first Osaka store. LUCUA South 11F, 3-1-1 Umeda, Kita-ku, Osaka — directly above Osaka Station — at about 371 tsubo (roughly 1,200 m²), which the operator calls the largest sales floor in western Japan. Alongside kits and merchandise it is planned to carry exhibits and a build-it-yourself experience.
Opening: February 2027. No English guide has this yet, so if you are planning a 2027 trip that includes Osaka, note it now — and see our Osaka guide for what is already there in Den Den Town.
What the listing sites get wrong
- They still list the Odaiba Unicorn Gundam as a current attraction. It ended on 31 August 2026. This is the single most-repeated error in English Tokyo guides right now.
- They list Yokohama’s moving Gundam. That closed in March 2024.
- They describe THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO’s floor layout from before 20 July 2026, when the FACTORY and BUILDERS zones were rebuilt.
- They treat “the Gundam” as a permanent Tokyo landmark. Every life-size statue so far has been temporary: Shiokaze Park 2009, Shizuoka 2010–11, Odaiba RX-78-2 2012–17, Odaiba Unicorn 2017–26, Yokohama 2020–24.
If you are going to Odaiba anyway
It is still a reasonable half-day if you pair it with something else rather than treating the mall as the point. Practical notes
- Getting to DiverCity: Yurikamome to Daiba Station, about 5 minutes on foot; or Rinkai Line to Tokyo Teleport Station, about 3 minutes.
- Tax-free: the Gundam Base handles tax-free purchases, and the rules change on 1 November 2026 — see our guide to the November 2026 changes before you shop.
- Data: the statue schedules, mall hours and store notices are all published in Japanese and change without much warning, so it helps to be able to check on the day. A prepaid Japanese eSIM is the least painful option if your carrier does not roam here.
